Meet the Founder & Teacher, Erica Ann
Everything I offer through Light in the Dark is rooted in both professional training and survivor experience. I am a domestic violence trauma survivor, a trauma informed yoga teacher, and a somatic movement coach. When you book a class with me, you’re not only receiving education, but you’re also being guided by someone who deeply understands what it means to heal from the inside out.
From 2021-2022, I endured a 20-month legal battle to protect my children from their abusive father. During that time, my nervous system living in survival mode. I showed up exhausted, scared, and triggered because I had to. That experience fundamentally shaped how I understand trauma, resilience, and the body’s need for safety.
Long term stress and trauma can push the nervous system into freeze, making it difficult to feel safe again even after the threat has passed. While talk therapy is valuable, true healing also requires working with the body, gently stimulating the vagal nerve, restoring regulation, and relearning safety through movement, breath and co-regulation.
During that season, I created simple morning and evening somatic routines that helped reset my nervous system and lower cortisol. Those practices quite literally saved me, and they continue to support me today.
Light in the Dark was born from a lack of accessible trauma informed resources, combined with over 11 years of teaching yoga and witnessing the profound healing that comes from somatic movement. This space exists for survivors of domestic abuse and complex trauma, a place where you can take your armor of, be heard, and reconnect with your inner strength.
Here, you are held. Your voice matters. your body is honored. Healing happens one breath at a time, one gentle movement at a time.
If you feel called to book a class or have questions about my offerings, please reach out. If you are navigating domestic abuse and need resources, I am happy to help guide you.
